Program announcements, player evaluation insights, and developments from Ice Cold Analytics and the Drive Hockey platform.
Ice Cold Analytics is scheduling combines and season-long development programs with hockey associations, academies and leagues across Alberta for the coming season. We bring the Smart Arena to your rink, operate it ourselves, and deliver a development report for every athlete who skates.
A combine is the usual starting point — a single session that shows your staff and your families what the data does. From there most programs add mid-season and end-of-season captures to track development across the year. Calendars fill quickly and rinks need calibrating ahead of the first session, so early conversations are best.
Directors often ask what a report actually tells them that a good coach's eye does not. The answer is the mechanics behind the speed — where a player is losing edges in tight turns, where a crossover is bleeding time, and how conditioning is affecting first-step quickness by the third period.
Eye-test evaluation gives impressions. Measurement gives targets. When a coaching staff knows specifically what each athlete needs to work on, every session on the ice gets more efficient — and every selection decision gets easier to explain.
A raw top speed figure tells you very little on its own. Every result from an Ice Cold Analytics session is benchmarked against athletes in the same age group, drawn from a population that spans community hockey through to professional prospects.
That context is what makes the data usable. It tells a director where each skater sits relative to their peers, what the top of that age group actually looks like, and which gaps are worth building a development plan around.
I played hockey at the University of Alberta and spent years wondering the same thing every serious player wonders: what do I actually need to work on? Coaches gave feedback. Trainers gave drills. But the precise, measurable data that could tell me exactly where my skating was costing me simply did not exist at that level.
Ice Cold Analytics exists to close that gap. The technology that measures junior and pro prospects has no business stopping at the elite level, and the programs developing players in this province should have access to it.
Program announcements land here first. Check back regularly, or get in touch to talk about your own season.
